Contino Supports the Ministry of Defence at Astra Appivate’s Defence Hackathon
In September 2022, Contino spent the week with RAF Henlow providing technical support and expertise to the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) personnel at its second Defence Hackathon.
The data hackathon was run by the Ministry of Defence and Astra Appivate, the RAF’s High Code Software Capability whose mission is: "to build bespoke software that enables our aviators in the delivery of air power."
The hackathon gave attendees from across the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and Civil Service the chance to develop applications rapidly that could meet the evolving needs of the MOD as well as giving the MOD the chance to discover the amazing talent within its organisation.
Contino’s data expertise across platforms, engineering and digital transformation projects, combined with our knowledge sharing culture, meant our experts were able to provide useful advice and support to upskill the MOD’s internal talent.
“It’s incredibly important for us to help the MOD discover some of the hidden talent that is within the Defence organisation across the country.”
Nicholas Ruddick, Senior Technical Principal - Contino
“Contino have been great. They helped us last year during the RAF hackathon of 2021. They were what I’d call key enablers. So they sat alongside the teams, they used some of their delivery leads and their cloud service engineers, and really enabled them in building out the technical solutions.”
James Palfrey, Head of Software Engineering - Astra Appivate
